I've had a great experience at McGehee for the past 16 years that I have attended. I have been at McGehee since Little Gate, the preschool program, and have seen many the changes over the years. I have thoroughly enjoyed high school more than middle school but generally have had a good experience. The buildings are very nice and I love the classrooms. I love the school spirit that the high school brings and how tight-knit everyone is.
Since pre-K, our daughter as thrived at McGehee. We have consistently been impressed with her teachers, academic education, social and personal development, communication by leadership, and the way in which the school forms a partnership with parents. Now a fourth grader, our girl displays agency, a growth mindset, a love of learning, curiosity, empathy, academic excellence and, in particular, writing skills beyond expectation. I truly believe McGehee is the best place for girls' education in the city of New Orleans.
The best part about McGehee is that we are a small all-girls school, this is best for girls to feel included in groups, and able to express themselves and show who they truly are in every way, shape, and form. McGehee allows us to feel like we are in a safe space even in the classroom with teachers. Teachers are always wanting to help us and let us get extra help which is something I think is super unique about school here! I also love the traditions that have been carried on throughout the years because it's always such a f... read more
The best part of Mcgehee is the trust and freedom out school is built upon. We as students can be trusted to complete our work and we get lots of independence. I would like to see better ACT/SAT preparation in general because our school prepares you for college well except for standardized testing. Also better communication with teachers when it comes to overlap with big projects, assignments, and school events.
McGehee is amazing! The girls get individual attention and are able to participate in so many different things. It is not uncommon for kids to be multi-sport athletes and be involved in theater or student government, for example. It is a wonderful place to learn, to learn to work hard, and to build self confidence. From the lower grades on, they have built public speaking into so many areas that the girls think it is natural to speak in front of several hundred people! I am particularly impressed with their use of one-school... read more
When I'm talking to other parents, I often come back to the idea that what we're all looking for is the right school for the right kid. We can say very confiently that McGehee has been the right school for our daughter. We've seen how she's grown from early days in Kindergarden to now being a confident leader in her middle school community. We've seen how other high schoolers have mentored her and how prepared they are to head onto their next journeys in college and beyond. The parental community has been a great gift as we'... read more
MIT, Columbia, Duke, Vanderbilt, Penn, NYU.... What do all of these have in common? It's some of the colleges McGehee graduates attend. I have girls in middle school and high school and they are both thriving. We moved to New Orleans from NYC during the pandemic and placed our girls at McGehee and haven't regretted it for one second. Lots of chatter around New Orleans about what school is "best". If you value a smart, strong, confident girl who is fully prepared for the fast moving, always changing world - send her to McGehe... read more
Great High School curriculum which encompasses a wide variety of learning techniques as opposed to traditional high school learning!
The quality of education at McGehee was below average for a school with it's reputation and price point. The administration did nothing to address bullying. I was told that McGehee was know as the school for 'the Queens' and for girls who couldn't make it elsewhere. I should have listened to this advice. The school was a disappointment and I cannot recommend it.
