Complaint: At our request, Schalburgs installed a geothermal HVAC system in our newly constructed home. We are currently in dispute with our general contractor over another issue, but Schalburgs has been paid in full. We get a 30% tax credit on 2014 taxes with the geothermal unit. I requested a copy of the sales receipt and installation cost to submit with taxes. John Schalburg refused to provide it on the grounds the general contractor threatened him with no future work if he provided me with the receipt. The general contractor is holding the receipt. I simply requested a copy for my records and tax purposes. He refused to provide it and said he didn't want to jeopardize future work with the contractor. Additionally stating the potential for future work was more important than my business.Desired Settlement: I need an accurate receipt with total cost of equipment and installation with my name and address on it from Schalburgs for tax reporting. We need it by mid March to get taxes completed on time. The general contractor issue will not be settled by then.

Response:
Schalburg Heating & Cooling Inc. was hired by the general contractor to install the geothermal system in Mr. ******' new house. It is our understanding that Mr. ****** and the general contractor are in a dispute for other reasons. Mr. ****** said himself that he is happy with our work and his system. We as a subcontractor was hired and paid in full by the general contractor — therefore all receipts of payment needs to come from the general contractor. The situation with the general contractor and Mr. ****** does not include Schalburg Heating & Cooling Inc. It is unfortunate that he feels this way towards our company. We stand by our business and our work. Thank you,John Schalburg

Better Business Bureau:
I do not agree with the response. However, I am willing to accept it but still maintain Schalburg is unethical in their business practices. He opted to protect his financial interests and chose to screw the homeowner. If I would have known their character prior to hiring them-yes, I requested their services, not the contractor, I would not have hired them.
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait until for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.
